Ce film nous raconte l'histoire d'un jeune roublard de 15 ans, nommé Yabuki Joe. Lors de son arrivée dans un bidonville, ses aptitudes au combat attirent l'attention de Tange Danpei; un ancien boxeur à la retraite.
